Coffee Chat with Dimitar Iliev, Driverly Investor

Driverly’s success in its recent fundraising was built on deep relationships between the Driverly leadership and many of the new investors. Dimitar Iliev is one of our most recent additions to the cap table who did his MBA together with Armin Kia, Driverly co-founder and CEO, more than ten years ago.

Hi Dimitar! Tell us a little about yourself

Dimitar Iliev, passionate about technology innovation. Changed different industries from banking to consulting and now to EdTech, scaling the largest human transformation platform and disrupting traditional HR models. Married with 2 kids and living currently in London. Investing primarily in early-stage tech businesses and love to explore new opportunities.

You are one of Drively’s new angel investors. Why did you decide to invest in Driverly?

I decided to invest in Driverly because I see a rare combination of high-growth potential, industry disruption, and a visionary team that can redefine the future of auto insurance. The traditional insurance industry is burdened by outdated pricing models and inefficiencies, while Driverly leverages AI-driven risk assessment and real-time telematics to create a fairer, data-driven approach that benefits both insurers and drivers. With the global insurtech market set to expand rapidly, Driverly is positioned to capture significant market share by offering a smarter, more personalized insurance experience. Beyond its innovative technology, what truly convinced me was the team’s relentless focus on execution and customer-centric design, ensuring scalability and sustained competitive advantage. Their ability to adapt, iterate, and lead in a highly regulated space is what sets them apart. This is more than an investment—it’s a bet on a team and technology that I believe will reshape the insurance landscape for years to come.

You did your MBA at the same business school as Armin Kia, Drively cofounder and CEO. How did that background help?

Knowing Armin, not just as a business leader, but also as a friend and classmate during our MBA at Alliance Manchester Business School, gave me deep confidence in both him and Driverly’s vision. Spending nearly two years together, I saw firsthand his strategic mindset, resilience, and ability to challenge the status quo—qualities essential for disrupting the traditional insurance industry. This personal connection strengthened my investment thesis, as I had direct insight into his ability to execute, attract top talent, and navigate complex challenges. Our shared experience built a foundation of trust and alignment, reinforcing my belief that Driverly is positioned for long-term success in the insurtech space.

Any thoughts of the future of Driverly in the insuretech space?

I have full confidence that Driverly will be a major force in insurtech, especially in today’s uncertain landscape, where traditional industries are being forced to adapt. Its AI-driven pricing, real-time data analytics, and customer-centric approach position it to disrupt the outdated auto insurance model. Economic and technological shifts are accelerating the demand for more agile, data-driven solutions, making this the perfect time to invest in Driverly’s vision. As the industry moves toward greater personalization and efficiency, Driverly is uniquely placed to lead this shift.
